Serverspace now supports Oracle Linux 8.6

Serverspace now supports the sixth update of Oracle Linux 8 for the 64-bit Intel, AMD (x86_64), and Arm (aarch64) platforms. The new version is available in the vStack cloud tab in the control panel, and the previous OS version is no longer used for creating new virtual machines in the control panel.

The release is based on the Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8.6 package base with the RHCK kernel for the x86_64 platform. It includes the Unbreakable Enterprise Kernel (UEK) 6.3 installation image, which is based on the Linux 5.4 core and is more innovative than other commercial Linux kernels.

What is new in Oracle Linux 8.6?

  • support for drop-in configuration files to OpenSSH servers;
  • Policy-Based Decryption (PBD) for automated unlocking of LUKS-encrypted drives;
  • modulsync command for modular software management;
  • enchanced the shell and command line tools;
  • php: 8.0 and Perl 5.32 module streams for dynamic programming languages;
  • useful updates for compilers and development toolsets for GCC, Rust, LLVM, PCP, Grafana;
  • improved security and network settings.

Read the Oracle Linux blog and their release note to learn more about all the improvements in Oracle Linux 8.6.

Existing applications will operate normally in the new version of the OS. Applications certified in previous RHEL 8 or Oracle Linux 8 releases won’t require recertification in the current edition.
